The advantages of a carport are many, and should be considered before you decide where you will house your vehicles or RVs. Sales of carports are increasing every year, and are becoming a popular choice everywhere.

First, a carport is very affordable. They cost far less than traditional garages of wood frame or post frame construction. The cost is even less when you consider that they will prevent sun from fading your vehicle’s finish or cracking your RVs roof. Fixing such damage is expensive. And they will keep damaging snow and ice off these items, too, protecting your precious investment. Essentially, it will cost you more to have no carport, than to invest in one to protect your costly possessions.

Speaking of protection, sides can be added to a basic carport design, which will further protect your vehicle from the weather, or from dust and blowing debris. They look great, too.

Carports are easy to erect, which is another great reason to consider them. Most are easily built by two people, perhaps in just a matter of hours. Kits come with clear instructions, the pieces are marked, they fit together nicely, and the nuts and bolts are simple to install. No special tools or scaffolding is required.

Carport designs are offered in a full range of sizes. Single car units generally start at 7 feet wide, and the largest units are 40 feet wide, from most manufacturers. And the great thing about size is this—carports are expandable, so you can make the carport as long as you need it to be. For example, if you are placing the structure on a piece of property that is not very wide, order a narrow width, but combine as many sections as you need to produce a deeper storage area. You can design exactly what you need. And if you ever move, simply take the unit apart, and put it up at your new location.

Many like carports because they come in a variety of styles, colors, and options. Gable roofs are available, as are A-frame styles, barn styles, and more. Most dealers offer 12 to 18 color choices. Options include greater leg height, which is also adjustable in most units, skylights, insulation, fully enclosed units, service doors, and color-matched hardware.

Carports are typically made from tough, durable materials that will stand the test of time. Consequently, most manufacturers are happy to offer 20 year warranties, longer in many cases.
